Social

Knowing neighbors, helping neighbors

Food is the beginning. What we really build is a neighborhood that sees who lives in it. Our social programs connect neighbors who would otherwise never meet.

Why social

Loneliness is hunger of another kind

Amsterdam research shows 44% of over-75s feel lonely regularly. For non-EU newcomers it is 62%. Young single parents: 37%.

Our open tables, neighbor-buddies and language cafés work on the same root as food sharing: being seen, being counted, belonging.

From the neighborhood
"My buddy Joris comes every Tuesday. We drink tea, we laugh. For eleven years I had not been out to speak with anyone — now I look forward to Tuesday."
